Hi all, I’ve been working on my software capture skills and realized there’s a better way to set yourself up when you come to publish.

Scenario: You want to create a demo and training simulation.

Conventional Captivate workflow will have you create two separate files. But, when I put my Instructional Design hat on, it means more clicking for the learner to open and close the two files i.e. click of death.

My solution: create only a training sim, then insert a software demo inside the training file ( add a video demo slide before the training slides)

This way all the info the learner needs is in one file. Less clicking, less boredom, less cognitive overload opening closing files.

Here’s a link to the sample file to give you a better idea: http://chilp.it/6ec0d93

Hope this helps

Chris

Thanks for the tip, I’m new to Captivate so will have to try this out.

Even if we have our own workflow, it’s always useful to try other users’ approach. Thank you for your effort. Well done !

Christian, this is extremely helpful! I would like to use this feature in the future. My question – do you manually insert a software demo inside the training file? Thank you for sharing your great idea.

Chandra, yes once you’ve created your training demo add a new slide (from top left + slides, choose video demo, option to place it in order, then record). I like this as the learner then watches first, then practices in a safe environment all in one file.
